Community day of action success in Colchester
More than 85 households in a Colchester housing estate signed up to receive free home safety visits following a community day of action.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service took part in a multi-agency event at Greenstead Community Centre, in Hawthorn Avenue, on Friday, March 11.
The Service will now visit homes in the Greenstead estate to carry out the safety visits which include fitting smoke alarms entirely free of charge.
ECFRS Community Safety Officers Les Davis and Karen Soanes also handed out 69 free carbon monoxide alarms and gave safety advice to more than 150 people who they spoke to on the day.
Les said: “The community day of action was a huge success and was part of a larger campaign to improve Greenstead estate’s community.
“Our officers will now be able to make dozens of homes safer by fitting smoke alarms and helping make sure residents have all the advice they need as they carry out the home safety visits.
“By taking part in these community events, we can reach out to families and vulnerable people within Colchester’s community and give them the knowledge to help them stay safe in their homes.”
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will supply and install smoke alarms entirely free of charge as part of our free home fire safety visit programme.
