Commendation for Life Saver Steve

Hero Steve Temblett was presented with a Chief Fire Officer Commendation after he pulled a man from a burning car in Saffron Walden

Steve saw the collision involving a car and a bus in Debden Road, Saffron Walden, on October 21 last year. He then noticed flames coming from the car and realised that the driver was still in the front seat. Dashing to the car to help Steve found a man unconscious and discovered that the door was stuck and wouldn’t open.

Without hesitation Steve smashed the windscreen and pulled the man out to safety.

Acting Chief Fire  Officer Adam Eckley, who presented the award at Saffron Walden Fire Station on Thursday January 21, said: “Steve saved this man’s life, he is a true hero. When our crews arrived the car was completely engulfed in flames. Had it not been for Steve’s quick thinking and swift action this would almost certainly have been a fatal incident.

“It gives me great pleasure to present Steve with this commendation recognising the selfless and courageous life-saving action he took last October.”
