Adrian is now an international assessor
The service’s extrication team weren’t the only ones being put through their paces at the World Rescue Organisation Championships in Portugal. Station Officer Adrian Richardson completed his training to become a competition assessor.
It means that Adrian is now qualified to assess future international, and UK, extrication competitions.
He said: “I have been working for months to qualify as a UK Rescue Organisation assessor. I attended competitions across the country and delivered a workshop on heavy rescue at UK championships this year. That all meant that I was qualified as an UKRO assessor and could go on to become an World Rescue Organisation assessor.
“I went with the rest of the Essex team to Portugal and while they were competing I shadowed assessors learning how they judge international competitions. By the end of the competition I had qualified and now I will have the opportunity to assess teams in future World Rescue Organisation championships.
“It means that I have a great opportunity to see different equipment and techniques up close and can bring everything I learn back to the Service and pass that learning and knowledge onto our crews.”
