A century of service celebrated at Tollesbury
A special late retirement and long service event celebrated a century of Service at Tollesbury Fire Station.
Special presentations were made to four firefighters who all retired a decade ago after giving 80 years of dedicated service between them. David Brightwell had been a firefighter at Tollesbury for 36 years, Kevin Tappin served 14 years, Robert Wilkinson served 13 years and Stephen Toy served 17 years.
A Long Service and Good Conduct medal was also presented to Tollesbury Fire Station’s current Sub Officer John Leavett, celebrating 20 years of service.
Senior Divisional Officer Paul Bowers, who presented the awards, said: “David, Stephen, Kevin and Robert gave a remarkable 80 years of Service to the people of Tollesbury. We know that 10 years have passed since they retired, but dedication like that deserves to be recognised and we thought it was better late than never!
“With the presentation of Sub Officer Leavett’s Long Service medal that means we celebrated 100 years of firefighting.”
