Firefighters were called to a fire in Southend-On-Sea yesterday morning when a smoke alarm alerted a family to a fire in their home.

On arrival, crews confirmed that there was a fire in the living and dining area, and three people were inside.

Firefighters used a triple extension ladder to assist two adults and a child to safety, then worked quickly to extinguish the fire by 8:54am

Station Manager, Mark Elliott, said: “I want to thank our fantastic control team who provided vital safety advice to keep the family safe while we made our way to the incident yesterday morning. I’d also like to praise the crews who worked really hard to prevent the fire from spreading through the house.

“Unfortunately, the family have been left homeless as a result of the fire, but we’re pleased to report that nobody was hurt.”

An investigation determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
