Firefighters were called to a building fire in Southend last night (Wednesday 9 September).

A member of the public spotted smoke coming from the building and called 999. When fire crews arrived they reported that the building, which measured approximately 15m x 15m was full of smoke.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to tackle the fire. The building had a number of different rooms and areas but firefighter located the source of fire quickly and managed to get it under control quickly.

The fire was extinguished by 00:30am. Firefighters stayed at the scene for a futher 90 minutes to extinguish hot spots and ventilate the whole building.

The whole building has suffered some smoke damage, and the part of the building where the fire started has suffered fire damage.

The cause of the fire was found to be accidental.
