Firefighters were called to a fire involving a large heap of compost which measured approximately 15m x 15m and a field fire in Canewdon this afternoon (Friday 31 July).

Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fires in extremely hot conditions. They successfully managed to extinguish the fire and stop it spreading to a digger which was in close proximity to the fire.

The fire was extinguished by 4:20pm. Crews stayed at the scene for one hour to check all the hot spots were completely cooled.

Firefighters will return to the scene later tonight to check the affected area is still cool.
