Fire at landfill site

In attendance: 2 x Colchester, 1 x Wivenhoe, 1 x Coggeshall, 1 x Halstead (Water Bowser), 1 x Manningtree (Off-road vehicle)

Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire at a landfill site in Stanway. 

On arrival, crews confirmed that there was a fire, approximately 50 metres x 20 metres, at the landfill site.

Due to the remote location of the incident, a water bowser (a specialist fire vehicle with a large tank of water) was requested so the firefighters could have a good supply of water to extinguish the fire as well as an off-road vehicle.

Crews are working to extinguish the fire.

If you live near Warren Lane in Stanway, please keep all windows and doors shut. 


Four crews have arrived at the scene to relieve the current crews. Firefighters will continue work to extinguish the fire. 


Throughout the day, crews have made steady progress to extinguish the fire using site machinerary to move the rubbish and extinguish hotspots.


Crews have worked to make the scene safe and have left the scene in the care of the site owner. Firefighters will revisit the site in the morning.
