Firefighters were called to a fire in Runwell this afternoon after the residents heard their smoke alarms going off.
On arrival, crews reported that an item had been left on the hob which was accidentally switched on. The team worked to clear the smoke from the room by 4:47pm.
Three people at the address suffered smoke inhaltion and were left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
Station Manager Al Green said: "We advise that you keep hobs clear of any items in case the hob is accidentally switched on or has a fault. The residents had working smoke alarms that alerted them to the fire and did the right thing by getting out of the house and calling us."
We want all residents in Essex to have working smoke alarms on every level of their property.
If you or someone you know doesn't have working smoke alarms, we can fit them for free. Book your free home safety visit at www.essex-fire.gov.uk/book
Have your say on the future priorities of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has launched a public consultation - a ten minute survey asking the public of Essex about how our future priorities are delivered.
The consultation is a chance for the local community to tell us what matters to them and what approach they think we should take. The responses will enable us to develop an Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP) in the New Year.
To have your say, visit: www.essex-fire.gov.uk/irmp before Friday 13 December 2019.
