Firefighters were called to a fire involving 100 hectares of stubble and three miles of hedgerow.

The initial firefighters called to the incident immediately requested extra support from additional fire crews and the use of two fire service off-road vehicles (from Billericay and Stansted) and a water bowser (a fire engine with a large tank of water onboard) to help tackle the fire which was spreading quickly.

*Update 5pm* The fire is now affecting six fields (approximately 100 hectares in total), plus three miles of hedgerows and a large wooded area. Firefighters are working hard in very hot and windy conditions to get control of the fire and extinguish it as soon as possible.

There are currently 12 fire engines, two off-road vehicles and one water bowser at the scene helping to tackle the fire.

*Update 6pm* Firefighters have just reported that 95% of the field fire and the fire in the wooded area has been extinguished. Fire crews are now ensuring that hot spots are extinguished and are still working to extinguish the fire affecting the hedgerow.

Fire crews have confirmed that at this time there is no risk the fire will affect any properties.

*Update 7:30pm* The fire has been completely extinguished. All fire engines will now leave the scene.

A number of fire engines have now been released from the incident. More fire engines will also be released very shortly.

The cause of the fire is not known.
