Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire in Hutton this afternoon (Tuesday 12 February) after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the property.
When fire crews arrived they immediately entered the property wearing breathing apparatus to search to see if anyone was inside.
Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire, which was in the kitchen, confirmed no one was in the property and worked to extinguished the fire by 5pm.
Crews then cleared the house of smoke and isolated both the electricity and gas to ensure the scene was safe.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental, and is thought to have started after the switch on a kettle was accidentally turned on and became stuck, causing the element to overheat and catch fire.
The kitchen has been completely destroyed.
