Fire at industrial unit

Firefighters were called to a fire in an industrial unit used as a workshop this morning (Monday 28 January).

When fire crews arrived they reported that the unit, which measured approx. 20m x 10m, was on fire and completely full of smoke. The fire had also spread to the roof.

Firefighters surrounded the unit and use hoses to extinguish the fire. Crews also used used an aerial ladder platform (ALP - a fire engine with a large ladder attached) to pour water on the fire from above.

The fire was extinguished at 12:30pm. The fire was found to have started accidentally by an electrical fault in an extractor fan. The building has sufffered fire and smoke damage, but firefighters managed to stop it spreading to the adjoining units.
