Crews are currently dealing with a fire at Tilbury Docks.
At midnight firefighters reported that approximately 1,500 tonnes of woodchip was alight within a warehouse building that measures approximately 100 metres by 30 metres.
Update 6am: Crews report they are making good progress, but due to the nature of the fire, it is expected that it will take some time to fully extinguish.
Update 10.30am: The fire is completely restricted to the building of origin and the level of smoke in the nearby area is minimal.
Firefighters are using thermal imaging cameras to locate hotspots and dampen down the surrounding areas to the pile of wood chippings.
Because the fire is so deeply positioned within the pile, firefighters are supporting the building's personnel in using internal cranes to move the materials.
This is a gradual process and crews expect to remain at the scene for a number of days.
Update 7am, 21 Sept: Firefighters are continuing to monitor the fire and have confirmed the temperature of the pile is showing a steady decrease.
Update 10am, 25 Sept: The fire is now out. An investigation into what caused the fire will now take place.
