In attendance: 1 x Saffron Walden, 1 x Dunmow, 1 x Newport, 1 x Stansted, 1 x Sible Hedingham, 1 x Manningtree (Pinzgauer), 1 x South Woodham Ferrers (Pinzgauer), 1 x Haverhill (Suffolk)

Firefighters were called to reports of a large field fire this afternoon.

On arrival, crews reported that the fire had spread quickly and had covered an area of stubble around the size of eight football pitches.

Firefighters used two Pinzgauers, appliances which allow them to spray water on the fire while moving across terrain, to try and contain the fire and prevent it spreading further.

The fire also affected a number of bushes, hedges and a quad bike.

At 5.40pm, the Incident Commander reported the fire was under control. Crews were dampening down hotspots within the area to reduce the risk of reignition.

At 6.19pm, firefighters were continuing to dampen down and extinguish hotspots. The Incident Commander reported that good progress is being made.

At 7.02pm, the fire was out completely. The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
