In attendance: 1 x Hawkwell, 1 x Rayleigh Weir, 1 x Rochford, 2 x Southend (1 x Aerial Ladder Platform), 1 x Leigh, 1 x Great Baddow, 1 x Basildon
Firefighters were called to multiple reports of a fire in a public house this morning.
On arrival, crews reported that the roof of the building, which measures approximately 40 metres by 20 metres, was completely alight.
The Incident Commander immediately requested the support of an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) to allow firefighters to tackle the fire more effectively from height.
Due to the scale of this incident, the adjacent road is likely to be closed for some time. Please avoid the area.
UPDATE - 2.30am: Firefighters have reported that good progress is being made. The incident has been divided into sectors to enable crews to tackle it with as much efficiency as possible. Around 20% of the roof space remains alight.
UPDATE - 4.20am: The Incident Commander has reported that the fire has now been contained and is completely surrounded.
UPDATE - 5.30am: The incident is now being scaled back. 2 fire engines and the ALP will remain at the scene to continue dampening down hotspots.
UPDATE - 7.30am: Three crews remain at the scene and are continuing to monitor the area and extinguish hotspots.
UPDATE - 9.30am: The fire is now fully out. Firefighters have left the scene.
Following an investigation into the cause of the fire, we believe it was caused accidentally.
