Incident Number: 79085
In attendance: 1 x Great Baddow, 2 x Basildon
Firefighters were called to a house fire in Billericay this afternoon (Monday 11 June).
The first crew to arrived was a fire engine from Great Baddow as they had been doing a fire safety visit one mile away from the property. When they got to the house they could see smoke coming from the upstairs and roof area and so immediately entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and quickly worked to extinguish the fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished by 1pm and crews worked to ensure all remaining hot spots were cooled.
The fire started in the upstairs bedroom which was being used as a home office. The fire is thought to have been started by electrics. The first floor of the property has been smoke damaged and the room the fire started in, and its contents, have been badly damaged.
No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire was discovered by the next door neighbour who heard the property's working smoke alarm sounding.
Incident like these show how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home. Smoke alarms give you an early warning of a fire, so you have time to get out, stay out and call the fire service out.
