Unattended cooking causes flat fire

A man has suffered a lucky escape after being rescued from a fire that started after he fell asleep while cooking.
Crews were called to a ground floor flat after a resident heard their neighbour's smoke alarm.
On arrival firefighters broke into the property and found a man asleep and surrounded by smoke.
Firefghters quickly rescued the man and a dog, extinguished the fire and cleared the property of smoke using positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans.
The causalty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
The flat has suffered some smoke damage.
Watch Manager Howard Midwood said:
"The resident was very lucky in the fact that their neighbour heard the smoke alarm and called us immediately, meaning we were able to rescue him and stop the fire escalating.
"This incident shows how important it is not only to have a working smoke alarm, but not to leave cooking unattended or start cooking when you are tired."
