Firefighters were called to a house fire in Colchester early this morning (Monday 12 March).

When fire crews arrived they found the fire was in one bedroom. As the door of the bedroom had been shut, the fire did not spread and the damage was limited to the bedroom.

Firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.

The family were alerted to the fire by their working smoke alarm. Incidents like this show how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home. They give you an early warning of a fire so you have time to safely get out, stay out and call the fire service out.
