Firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire this afternoon.

On arrival, crews reported that the roof area of a detached four-storey property was alight.

Firefighters cut away areas of the roof and extinguished various hotspots within the timberframe structure. The area was cooled completely by 4.57pm.

The top floor of the home, which has been converted to include a kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area, has suffered widespread smoke damage.

The fire was caused accidentally by the homeowner, who was using a blow torch during construction work to the roof.
