Barn conversion and warehouse barn on fire

Firefighters were called to a fire involving a barn conversion and warehouse barn in Basildon last night (Wednesday 7 February).

When firefighters arrived they reported the roof void of the attached buildings, which measures approximately 20m x 40m, was completely alight.

The initial officer in charge requested the attendance of a total of six fire engines plus a Water Bowser (fire engine with large tank of water), ALP (aerial ladder platform - a fire engine with a ladder tower used to pour water on fires from above) and a Hose Layer (fire engine with extra, high-powered hoses used to pump water from the hydrant to the fire).

The fire was extinguished at 2am. Firefighters remained at the scene to dampen down remaining hotspots. The road was shut while firefighters dealt with the fire. Firefighters left the scene at 11am.

An investigation will be carried out to establissh the cause of the fire.
