A family escaped a potentially serious house fire in the early hours of this morning, after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

Firefighters reported on arrival that the two-storey property was completely smoke logged after a washing machine had caught fire.

Five occupants, including three children, evacuated unharmed after a smoke alarm in their home's kitchen actuated successfully.

Firefighters did extremely well to contain the fire to the kitchen and then extinguish it completely by 3.56am.

The kitchen has suffered severe fire damage, while most of the rest of the ground floor of the property has also been smoke damaged, despite the use of a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the premises as quickly as possible.
