Incident Number: 68188

Firefighters were called to a house fire in Stansted yesterday afternoon (Thursday 7 December) after a passer by noticed smoke coming from the property.
When firefighters arrived they reported the house was full of smoke and there was a fire in the kitchen.
The fire was extinguished by 2pm.
The house is now uninhabitable. The Red Cross were requested to provide the occupants with immediately welfare support.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
Watch Manager Paul Harrington said:
"Although the house had smoke alarms fitted, the battery had been taken out.
"This meant there was a delay in the fire being discovered, and ultimately, the fire service being called out to tackle the incident.
"Incidents like this show how vital it is that every house has a working smoke alarm on every level.
"Whatever happens, never remove the battery from your smoke alarm and make sure you regularly check that it's working."
