Crews were called to reports of a fire in the first floor of a house.
On arrival crews reported that a first floor bedroom was smoke logged and extinguished the fire by 9.10am.
Firefighters then used positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fans to clear the smoke from the room.
As the bedroom door had been closed and the window was open smoke and fire damage was limited to the bedroom.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental, and started after clothing caught alight after being left on a light box which consisted of spotlights in an MDF frame.
Essex County Fire an Rescue Service is reminding people never to leave clothing on any type of light or lamp as it can easily catch fire.
