Crews were called to a house fire in the early hours of this morning.

On arrival crews reported that the house was smoke logged and the fire was in a first floor bathroom.

Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire by 2:50am.

One male suffered smoke inhalation and was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental, and is most likely to have started in the bathroom's extractor fan.

The house suffered from smoke and fire damage and is now inhabitable.

Watch Manager Peter Dunn said:

"There was a delay between the fire starting and the occupants of the house being alerted because the only smoke alarm in the house was fitted on the ground floor level.

"A working smoke alarm can buy you valuable time to get out, stay out and call 999. Make sure you fit one on every level of your home and test them regularly."
