Fire crews rescued a shire horse from a ditch this afternoon.

The animal, which weighs around 900 kilograms, had fallen on its side whilst moving logs through a nature reserve.

Using our Animal Rescue Unit, crews were able to safely lift the horse out of the ditch by 3.07pm, before helping it get back to it's feet and leaving the scene shortly afterwards.

Fortunately, the horse avoided injury during the fall.
