In attendance: 2 x Basildon, 1 x Billericay, 1 x Corringham, 1 x Wickford, 1 x Orsett, 1 x Brentwood, 1 x Chelmsford (water bowser), 1 x Grays (aerial ladder platform)
Crews were called to the scene of an industrial unit fire in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 7 September).
On arrival firefighters reported that the industrial unit was 100% alight and that the building had collapsed.
Update 3.30am: The fire is almost out and crews are dampening down remaining hotspots. This incident has produced a lot of smoke - residents in Laindon are advised to keep windows and doors closed.
Update 6.30am: Crews are assessing to site to ensure the fire is completely out and the scene is safe.
Update 4pm: Crews remain on site to continue dampening down hotspots and ensure the scene is safe.
Update 10pm: Crews confirmed the fire was completely out and left the scene.
During the incident Basildon Council’s Environmental Health department arranged for the area around the site to be monitored for levels of asbestos. Sampling and analysis was carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive Guidance. Following the sampling, it was confirmed that the area was safe and posed no risk to the public.
Following an investigation the cause of the fire was recorded as undetermined.
