Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of an incident on the A127 involving a lorry which was leaking sodium hypochlorite onto the roadway.
Four fire engines and a specialist HAZMAT vehicle were sent to the scene of the incident to work to make the area safe and stop the chemical entering the watercourse and drains.
When crews arrived the at scene they found that one drum, containing 25 litres of the chemical, had tipped over and split inside the lorry and the liquid was leaking onto the roadway. The driver had already managed to cover the nearby drain to stop the liquid running into it.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus isolated the drum to stop the leak and set up a dam around the spillage to stop it enterring the watercourse.
The scene was made safe and left in the care of the lorry company and Police at 11:10am.
