Firefighters gave first aid to a mother and six month old baby after the baby, who was strapped into a pram, fell into a river. The mother managed to rescued the baby and was looked after by two members of the public until the fire service and Ambulance Service arrived.
Sub Officer Macwilliam, Waltham Abbey Fire Station, said:
"When we arrived, the baby had been rescued by the mother, but it was clear she was suffering with shock and the baby was wet through and getting colder. We got the baby out of its wet clothes and wrapped it in a warm blanket.
"Two members of the public were comforting the mother and did an excellent job at keeping her calm. We made sure everyone was ok and then handed them over into the care of the paramedics. The mother and baby were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure."
