Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a derelict building in Surrex, near Coggeshall.
On arrival, fire crews reported that the building, which measures around 400 square metres and was previously used as a pub, was completely alight.
Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform (ALP) to allow them to spray water on the building from above.
Crews worked hard to ensure the fire was under control by 3.45am.
Police and the highways agency also implemented a partial closure of the nearby A120, which was being affected by smoke from the fire. The road was re-opened by 6.26am.
*Update 7:30am* One fire engine remains at the scene. Firefighters are checking for remaining hotspots.
*Update 9am* Firefighters are still dampening down remaining hotspots at the site to ensure the whole building is cooled and safe before they leave.
Firefighters left the scene at 10:30am.
A full investigation will take place into the cause of the fire in due course.
