Barn fire

In attendance: 2 x Chelmsford, 1 x Great Baddow, 1 x Rayleigh Weir, 1 x Halstead (Water Bowser)

Firefighters were called to a fire in a large barn containing agricultural machinery and a large quantity of wood.

When fire crews arrived they reported the barn was completely on fire.

Southend Road was temporarily closed so crews could deal with the incident safely.

At 4:15pm the officer in charge reported the fire is surrounded and under control.

At 7pm, the inital crews and fire engines were replaced with new crews and three new fire engines. Firefighters are continuing to tackle the fire.

The fire was extinguished at midnight. Two crews remained at the scene for a further two hours to check all the hot spots were completly extinguished.

The cause of the fire was found to be a bonfire which had spread out of control and caught the barn alight.
