Firefighters rescued a young horse who got stuck in a ditch which was full of water in Ongar.

When firefighters arrived they found the horse, called Ronnie, was shoulder deep in the watery ditch. The owners of the horse had managed to keep his head above the water but there was no way they could have got the horse out.

While the owners and vet kept Ronnie calm, the firefighters used specialist equipment from the Animal Rescue Unit (ARU) and by working together, managed to lift the horse out of the ditch.

Although exhausted by the ordeal, Ronnie did not suffer any injuries. The horse was rescued by 6:30pm and left in the care of it's owner and vet.
