House fire - smoke alarm alerts occupants

In attendance: 2 x Witham, 1 x Chelmsford, 1 x Great Baddow

Firefighters were called to a fire in terraced house in Homefield Road, Witham. The occupants of the house were alerted to the fire by their working smoke alarm.

When crews arrived at the house they reported the fire was in a first floor bedroom. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and had extinguished the fire by 4:30pm.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire and stopped it spreading to the niehgbouring properties. The first floor of the property has been badly damaged by the fire and the rest of the property has suffered smoke damage.

The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental. The fire was started by a fan which was on in the bedroom.

Two people were left in the care of the Ambulance Sevice suffering with smoke inhalation.
