Man suffers burns after lighting fire with petrol

A man suffered burns last night after attempting to light a fire with petrol.
Crews were called to an address in Goring Road, Colchester, to reports of a fire in the garden.
On arrival crews reported that the man had been in the back garden of his house lighting a small fire in a home made fire pit. The man had used petrol from a plastic fuel can to ignite the fire and in doing so, flashback occurred, setting fire to the fuel can.
The man had attempted to extinguish fire by stamping it out and in doing so sustained burns to both legs.
Crews extinguished the fire by 8.55pm, gave the casualty first aid and left him in the care of the Ambulance Service.
Incidents like this show why you should NEVER pour petrol onto a fire or BBQ.
